  • Project Censored

Project Censored is a media watchdog organization dedicated to promoting critical media literacy, independent journalism, and democratic engagement. Its mission is to educate students and the public about the vital role a truly free press plays in a functioning democracy. The organization investigates and highlights news censorship, working to expose underreported stories and systemic media biases. Through its support of independent investigative journalism and emphasis on media literacy and critical thinking, Project Censored aims to empower citizens and strengthen democratic self-governance.

  • UCLA's Critical Media Literacy Library Research Guide

The UCLA Critical Media Literacy Research Guide, curated by educator and scholar Jeff Share, serves as a comprehensive resource for exploring the intersection of media, education, and social justice. This guide is designed to support educators, students, and researchers in understanding and teaching critical media literacy.

  • Critical Media Project

Critical Media Project (CMP) is a free media literacy web resource for educators and students (ages 8-21) that enhances young people’s critical thinking and empathy, and builds on their capacities to advocate for change around questions of identity. CMP has a two-fold mission:

To raise critical awareness and provide the tools to decode media representations of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socio-economic class, religion, age, and disability, and develop an understanding as to how these identities intersect

To encourage and offer guidance for students to tell their own stories, create their own representations, and uphold their status as active and engaged participants in civic society.

  • Mass Media Lit

Our mission is to ensure that all students are taught the critical thinking skills needed to engage with media as active and informed participants in the 21st century.

Our vision:  Through education, research, advocacy and networking, we bring critical Media Literacy education to schools and communities.

A critical approach to Media Literacy education addresses the structural and institutional components of the media industry and technologies. It embraces a critical and cultural approach with a focus on social justice. As independent critical media literacy scholars, we do not accept money or support from corporate media.
